The Secret to Safely Avoiding Gluten While Dining Out
Melinda Dennis, MS, RD, LDN is a registered dietitian who specializes in counseling patients with celiac disease.
Melinda was diagnosed with celiac disease and dermatitis herpetiformis (an associated skin rash) in 1992 when celiac disease was considered to be very uncommon. Following her passion for teaching, she became a registered dietitian in order to teach the gluten-free diet and lifestyle to others. She received her Master of Science in Nutrition and Health Promotion from Simmons College in Boston, MA, and completed her clinical internship at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC), and helped found the Celiac Center there in 2004.
In addition to her role as Nutrition Coordinator of the Celiac Center at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Melinda is the founder, former chairperson and co-Newsletter Editor of the Healthy Villi Greater Boston Celiac/DH Support Group and now serves as their Nutrition Advisor.
Melinda is co-author, with Dr. Daniel Leffler, of ‘Real Life with Celiac Disease: Troubleshooting and Thriving Gluten-Free.’ Melinda has authored several journal articles on the nutritional management of celiac disease and gluten-related disorders and greatly enjoys nationwide public speaking to the celiac and medical communities.
In November 2012, BIDMC’s Celiac Center launched www.CeliacNow.org, a comprehensive, multi-leveled website for the nutrition and medical management of celiac disease and gluten-related disorders.
Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and the Celiac Center at BIDMC do not endorse or support any particular product, service or sponsor which may be referenced in the Gluten Summit.
